We arrived in the middle of breakfast service having not slept for 28 hrs with 3 small kids. We found a table by the pool and proceeded to rummage through each child's bag to find their swimmers so they could cool off and we could rest by the pool for a few hrs. Before i had located all the swimmers, the staff had a room ready for us. Before 10am....checkin is 3pm. To say i was grateful is an understatement. Our 7yr old had fallen asleep in the taxi from the airport and was sleeping in a chair in the courtyard, so a bed was very welcome. In hindsight, we'd probably made quite a spectacle, arriving at that time, no sleep, 5 of us, taking over the courtyard etc, but no one made us feel uncomfortable about it. Rooms: We had room 203, a 1 bedroom apartment, with 2 double beds in the bedroom and a sofa bed in the lounge. Beds were a bit soft for my preference, but i still slept just fine. There was plenty of space in the lounge and dining area. There was a 3 seater lounge with another chair. A dining table with 4 chairs. Kitchen had a big stove and oven (which we never used lol), microwave and full sized fridge. Also, cups, plates, bowls, cutlery, cooking things, toaster, coffee machine (filtered). Everything was clean in the apartment. Sure, the furniture is durable, not high end, but I don't want high end when I am traveling with small kids. I want durable. I've read reviews about the carpets being stained, and that's true but Hollywood is very dirty, be prepared for that, so I don't know how they could keep the carpets spotless. They couldn't keep the carpet in hotels spotless unless they steam cleaning them weekly. I've stayed at 4.5-5 star hotels in Australia with similar issues. Everything else was spotless. I also loved that there were shutters on all the windows rather than curtains. They looked great and provided good privacy. There was also heaps of cupboard and storage space for all our clothes and suitcases. Amenities: Pool - clean, bunch of complementary pool toys, float vests, pool noodles etc, always plenty of clean pool towels available, popsicle hotline was a massive hit with the kids. Yes, there were other patents who did not supervise their kids and their kids mucked up and splashed others sitting by the pool. Not the hotel's fault. Everytime we used or went by the pool, it was clean and tidy, and there were an abundance of clean pool towels available. Laundry- firstly, the hotel will do your laundry for you, for free. Wash, dry, fold and return within 24 hrs. We used this service once, and had no complaints. I chose to wash the rest of the time as we have lots of clothing that I didn't want to put through the dryer. The hotel also has a few drying racks that you can borrow to air dry your clothes (subject to availability of course). If you choose to wash your own clothes, the machines and laundry detergent are free. There is also an ice machine located in the laundry room, very welcome for hot days. Free icecream, snacks, drinks - this was really unbelievable. They have a soft drink machine with 30 odd flavours of soft drinks available. You can mix and match to your hearts content (my boys all made extensive use of this machine). It also dispenses chilled water and ice for those who prefer not to drink just soft drinks. From 2.30-9.30pm, a soft serve icecream machine is put out next to the drink machine. Flavours change daily, but usually vanilla plus something else like choc mint or strawberry. On checkin, the staff give you a list of snacks available for free. And they are really and truly unlimited. Again, we made extensive use of these. Continental breakfast- there were different choices of bread to make toast, croissants, cereals (cheerios, rice bubbles, frosty flakes, cornflakes etc), apples, bananas, sweet muffins, tea, coffee, juices, yogurt. You can pile up a tray to bring up to your room to eat, or take it to a table in the courtyard to eat. They also have vegemite some days for your toast, plus butter and jams. Other - throughout the day, there is chilled water in reception and a bowl of apples for snacks (plus free snacks if you ask for them). Staff - the reviews all compliment the staff here, and it's true. These guys (and girls) are super friendly, helpful and go out of their way to help you out. They lent us tap passes to use to get to universal ($5 saving as they cost $1 each), and have little reference notes that tell you how to get to and from the metro to universal. They do not judge the hundred packets of various snacks your family consume in 5 days. They promptly respond to the popsicle hotline and come out with trays of popsicles to the pool area to hand them out to guests (big and small). How the staff kept thier cool when dealing with my tribe and their specific coloured popsicle requests, i do not know! You are all legends. I really felt at home here. Free wifi - we had no issues with the free wifi. All 5 of us used it for gaming etc with no issues. We had no issue with road noise, but we did have the aircon running 24/7 which probably blocked any noise. Location is good. Quick metro to universal, 5 min walk to hollywood Blvd, plenty of food options around. Loads of aussies stay here, i think only 1 group we saw weren't from Australia during our 5 days lol. Note, we did not visit the magic castle, nor use the parking, so no comment on that. we stayed early September 2017.

Slightly quirky (in the nicest possible way!) . The lovely staff were very helpful. Room was spacious and clean. There's a drinks machine, an ice cream machine, chocolate and snacks and DVD's available all at no cost... plus a magic show at breakfast! Sunny atrium with pool, tables and chairs and all a five minute walk from Sunset Boulevard. What's not to like?

I stayed here for just one night, but would have happily stayed longer . The hotel staff are amazing, so friendly & helpful. Breakfast was very nice, & I enjoyed eating it outside at one of the tables around the pool area. I stayed in room 102 , which faces the road, but had no problem sleeping. The airconditioner was working, but I don't think it would be sufficient for a hot day. The only other problem was in the bathroom , the exhaust fan & heater come on together, which made it uncomfortable . I would recommend this hotel especially for families, everyone seemed to be enjoying their stay !

"Another Excellent Stay"

We stayed here for a week at the end of July. This was our fifth visit. As we love California so much, we have travelled from the UK for our summer vacation for the last 5 years. Our teenage daughters refuse to stay anywhere else in LA! This is the ideal place to get over the jet lag as it is super relaxing. We started with a couple of days chilling by the pool and making good use of the free snacks and the popsicle hotline. The continental buffet breakfast is an ideal start to the day. A great addition this year is the serve yourself drinks machine. As well as soda, the machine also had still and sparkling water which saved us a small fortune! On several evenings the staff ordered takeaway for us or we used online delivery services. As always, the staff recommendations were great. We did not have a car for that week but it was easy & cheap to travel with Uber. We had our first week's laundry done before we left which is a fantastic free service and if dropped off in the morning at the front desk, it was delivered back to the room in the evening. We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment by the pool which has lots of space. The beds are large and extremely comfortable. The only downside for us is the bath/shower which really could do with being updated. This would never stop us from staying in the same apartment again tho! As always the staff were superb. Alex - please never leave as long as we continue to visit. You are the best hotel employee we have ever come across in the many, many hotels that we have stayed in. It was great to meet Brian this year, who is a perfect addition to the team. Thank you to all the Magic Castle Hotel staff for another fabulous stay.
