"Beautiful hotel, good rooms and super location!"

Well the tittle says it all. We loved this hotel. Good food, good pool / gym, 10 mins to Universal, beautiful Christmas lights, good breakfast, polite staff (except one fool). A super place be when you want to enjoy Universal Studios.... BUT.... Expect that we were woken up at 3am by the front desk, since their new guest was NOT able to enter our room. Yeah they gave a key to a TOTAL stranger to us to enter our room in the middle of the night (because our room was unoccupied, BLOODY HELL)... luckily we had the double locks on! I was horrified, super disappointed about this fool behind the front desk and needless to say very angry about this. The hotel manager handled my case well with proper apologies and I am able to forgive them. But PEOPLE HAVE YOUR DOUBLE LOCKS ON! Without this event, I would have given 4 even 5 stars to the hotel that we really LOVED!

Have been a Hilton Honors member for years, but Devang and his crew: Astrid, Roxy, Sabrina, Lisette N, Kevin and CP made my birthday exceptionally memorable! Thank you all for your kindness...you are the best and the property is magnificent! Cudos to your entire staff and if you are looking for a 5 star Hollywood experience, look no further!

"Construction, wrong room, no thank you"
TripAdvisor user rating 3 out of 5
Reviewed January 17, 2018 NEW
This review may be a bit scattered as I wrote it throughout our stay rather than retrospectively, and added to it each day. We arrived early and went to drop our bags off, expecting to at least have a discussion about early check in, even if we would have to come back a bit later to get early check in, but it was not mentioned at all. They took all my details and ID etc so we thought we were being checked in right then, but at the very end of the conversation we heard simply “come back at 4.” Could’ve been more polite about it. We also were told on arrival that there’s construction so the water supply will be disrupted and low pressure for many hours of the day - why would a respectable hotel not at the very least email guests before they arrive to inform them of this! I would have utilised my free cancelation and stayed at the Sheraton next door (but I assume this is exactly why they did not inform me). Nothing like arriving after 24 hours of travelling to then be told that. No apology for the inconvenience the plumbing would cause either. On top of that the hotel staff didn’t inform us there was a pool or that there was a spa and a fitness centre, nor where to find it. No direction that there is a restaurant in the hotel either. I’ve never had that happen at any hotel in any country of the world. Other hotels would say simply something like “you can find our restaurant at this location”, but we weren’t even offered that much. The check in staff specifically stated that a credit card gets preauthorised for $50 USD for incidentals. They fail to mention it is $50 per night you are there. Negligent in informing on that and they really should be clearer to avoid confusion. We came back at 4 and were checked in. We arrive in our room and it wasn’t what we had booked. I booked a pool view room. I paid for a pool view room. I have the proof my booking was under a pool room.I was confirmed for a pool view room. Didn’t get it, instead we have some trees out the window, and a view into a back street of the hotel, lovely. Once we arrived in our room we found a letter outlining different construction that was not mentioned to us by the check in staff - this letter stated that it was a “face lift” construction project and the will “limit the noise” from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm! We understand construction happens from time to time but it is not difficult to inform guests prior to booking or prior to arriving. Construction is meant to be going on until mid 2018. I am sure Hilton won’t tell you that before you book so I will. It’s loud. And does go on until 7pm. The actual hotel is very nice, the room we stayed in was fine. It was nice with a couch, desk, tv and large bed. The shower was hot (I showered in the early morning as the construction was going to disrupt the water pressure during the stay). I pride myself on giving fair reviews of the places I stay. The physical aspects of the hotel were lovely. I felt that the staff not informing us prior to arriving about construction, coupled with a complete lack of information given upon check in was what let them down during our stay with Hilton. For that reason I would hesitate greatly before staying with Hilton again. For travellers wondering - wifi is not free there is a charge of 7.95 USD per 24 hour period. The shuttle to universal studios if frequent and free and fantastic to utilise. Really great aspect of the hotel. It stops at both Hilton and Sheraton, taking passengers to Universal Citywalk. We got the flyaway bus from the airport to the metro station at Hollywood & Vine and then got the red line train to Universal City and then walked to the Hilton. Be warned there is a very steep hill to climb with your luggage if you take this option but the bus and train are very easy to use and it cost about $11 all up from LAX to the hotel. The walls are very thin so you can hear a lot of conversation etc of people in the hallways. Which isn’t a big deal until it’s 3am and people are being obnoxiously loud in the hallways and having arguments. The alarm clock made white noise sounds at random times throughout the night. No idea why. In the middle of the night either the room next door or the hallways had loud noises periodically. Sounded like someone dragging a grand piano around the room. Was very disturbing when we were trying to sleep. The bathroom is very loud. Flushing the toilet in the night woke up everyone in the room. Not exaggerating on that. It was LOUD. Jesse at the concierge desk was incredibly helpful, he assisted us in booking a shuttle to LAX, and was knowledgeable about our options. It was a great experience dealing with him. The hotel really is physically nice. The woman who checked us in was a bit rude and that immediately decided our impression of the hotel as a whole. Then to not be informed of disruptive constructions until we arrive so that we cannot change our plans, coupled with being given the wrong room, is why I only give it three stars. Otherwise it would’ve been five stars. I’m sure I’ll get a generic response from the hotel on this review, but I’m hoping this will help some other travellers. Service is everything. You can have the nicest hotel in the world, but poor service will turn me away every time.

A classic Hilton, with large, well appointed rooms and great service. Literally a 5 minutes walk to Universal Studios and the City Walk, as well as about 10 minutes to the metro station, which is one stop from Hollywood Boulevard. Great views from the rooms too. A great base for a Los Angeles stay, especially if you aren’t hiring a car.

"Good overnight stay"

Our family stayed one night prior to a day at Universal Studios and then a late night flight home. There were no issues with them storing our luggage through the day. The rooms were clean and relatively spacious. Service was mostly great.
