"What an amazing time for the whole family at IFLY!"
March, 2015
We recently went to IFLY with four of my relatives. They are all between the ages of 50 and 65 and in good health. I was unsure of how they would do with it or if any of them would chicken out when they arrived. To my surprise all of them went and had an absolutely amazing time. They will not stop talking and bragging to everyone they see. They said they want more! Highly suggest going this is an awesome experience.
Tip: Bring tennis shoes and a be ready to smile :).

I love the experience but they didn't let us take pictures :(
Tip: If you go with a group. Schedule in different time so you can take pictures otherwise they will take your camera away ( of course they return it at the end of the session. If you smile big chances are that your saliva goes out.

"Great Time, Great Memories!!"

We chose to book an evening flight time through iFLY Website and we're happy we did! The wind tunnel is located on City Walk, it is outside which we found fun...people can stand, watch and take pictures but even as first time flyers we were ok with that, our minds were on the fun not the spectators. It asks for you to be there an hour early and with doing so we were able to fly earlier as it wasn't too busy. The staff were all super friendly and helpful!! We were a small group with only 4 people. We had about 15min prep time with the instructor, Samuel. There was a short video then we went over the hand signals they use in the wind tunnel because you cannot hear in there. They are simple to remember..chin up, bend your legs (remember to do slowly if asked) and relax. The woman ahead of me panicked and forgot to breathe, I was worried because of my asthma but found it no issue at all to breathe in the wind tunnel, it was very natural. After the instructional time we went to the next room where they gave us our wind suits, ear plugs, goggles and helmets. I wear glasses, they told me I could wear them under the goggles but if they were to fall off they would be gone for good so I chose not to wear them underneath. There is also lockers there to stow away your valuables for no extra charge. Next was to the area with the wind tunnel. We sat on the bench and waited for Samuel to call us in individually. We booked the family package for up up to 5 people, it cost $320 Canadian (the Canadian dollar exchange rate isn't so good right now) The package included 10minutes flying time and 5 videos of our choice between the family. We downloaded them when we got home, the quality doesn't look too good in the preview but the finished downloads are very clear. My boys are 20 and 16 and they both have huge raves about the whole experience. Each of them had 2 flights, 2 minutes each and I did 2 flights, 1 minute each. When in the tunnel Remember to follow the instructions and if asked bend your legs do it slowly to adjust. The main part is to relax and have fun...chin up and smile for all the pics and videos they are taking :) It does cost an extra $10 American to do a 'high' flight because it takes the instructor more effort to help control you...when in the tunnel you can make the choice and they will let you pay at the end. If doing a 'high' flight you will not see yourself up that high in the video as the camera angle does not go that far but you get a good portion of it. You also have the chance to make the decision when inside the tunnel area to do another flight at the extra cost of $20 American that you can pay for after you are done as well. Even though the cost was a bit expensive the memories made and the smiles that were from ear to ear made it worth every penny. I highly recommend iFLY for a great time!! We will be back :)

Funners for sure! I took my BF here for his birthday. I wanted to do something different and fun so this looked like the place. It was a good pick! Our fly instructor David was grand! He explained everything so well that I felt super comfortable doing what looked like I had no control of. David and the other staff were full of energy. Think Red Bull chased with a 5 hour energy. It's cool cause it makes the experience even greater. After your flight instruction you get suited up in gear. From there it's time to fly. You get 2 flights, and they ask you if you want to go higher on the second flight. Say yes! It is worth every second of it. I tried to smile for the pictures but that certainly was tough. Just keep your mouth shut or else you will have drool flying from your face. Not sure how my boyfriend had so many great smiley pics but he made it happen and without the drool. So you are probably wondering why I didn't give this place a 5 star. Frankly it's quite expensive for the 2 mins of flight time you get. Really once you almost get use to how to move the flight is over. A couple minutes more would be a lot better. After it is over they offer you to purchase gift certificates for others, for HALF the price you paid for your own flight. Ouch! Yeah it bites. If you dig around a little you may find a coupon or some sort of deal. That is your best bet. This is located at Universal City Walk, so go early so you can maneuver around the area to get to iFly.

This is a blast! It took hours for my smile wear off. As a Christmas gift, my daughter bought us a "Spread Your Wings For Two" package, which includes two 1-minute flight sessions for 2 people. These flights are completed about 3 feet off the chamber "floor" - actually a screen for the wind that blows upwards. You can purchase a higher level flight if you desire. The skydiving is done in a vertical wind tunnel. Before you get in the chamber, you watch a 5-minute video introduced by an instructor (ours was Ebs), who then goes through through body positioning and the hand signals they will use to communicate with you - it is loud in the wind tunnel. Next, you'll go to the changing room: empty your pockets and put it into a locker, don a supplied flight suit, ear plugs, goggles, and helmet. Then, it's off to the plexiglass ante room which surrounds the plexiglass flying chamber itself, along with a second instructor who will operate the wind mechanism. Alex took on this role, and we were advised that he would be the instructor on the high flights (with Ebs at the controls) if we chose to do that. Starting your flight is simple enough - with the wind up to speed, stand at the chamber doorway, arms to your side with hands above your head, chin up, and fall into the wind. The instructor catches you and puts you into the level flight configuration. Your body positioning will determine how you move in the wind, and it doesn't take much to blow you around. That's why the instructor is there: he/she will adjust your leg, arm and chin position to help you stabilize yourself. Many of the reviewers have commented on the limited amount of flight time. In my experience, the 1-minute goes slowly while you are experiencing it. So, yeah, it seems pricey on a per minute basis, but it is a very active minute that requires constant attention. It is a very exhilarating minute. In the end, I purchased 2 additional 1-minute flights, the last with Alex standing in front of me providing hand-signal instruction and a lower level of adjustment of my body position, before he took me up another 20 feet or so. All in all, this was a great time, and I look forward to returning. Many thanks to Ebs and Alex for the experience.

I can't encourage you enough to try this if you're even a bit interested. We made special plans to take flight the night before visiting Universal Studios and I'm so glad we did. My son loved it and they truly provide a once in a lifetime experience.

The team there made it fun - the rides are fast but worth every minute. My 12 year old and 16 year old loved this and I have to admit I did too at 58.

Frequently Asked Questions about iFly Hollywood

What is a wind tunnel?
A wind tunnel, in this case, a vertical wind tunnel, is the machine that produces the column of air you float on in the flight chamber. It has fans at the top with the purpose of drawing the air up past you. You experience a controlled environment providing you just the right amount of air flow for the utmost flight enjoyment.

How long is a flight?
Each flight within the wind tunnel lasts for 60 seconds. When jumping out of an airplane, the free fall portion last approx. 45 seconds. If you reserve a package that contains 2 flights, you will have 2 turns in the wind tunnel with an instructor lasting 60 seconds each. The entire iFLY first-time flyer experience takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes from start to finish.

How old do you have to be?
Flyers can be as young as 3 years of age. There is no upper age limit. Children under 18 years of age need to have a parent or guardian sign their waiver.

Who can fly?
There’s no experience requirement, so beginners, intermediates and experts can all fly.  All flyers must be in good health and physical condition. If you have had a prior shoulder dislocation or back or neck problems you should not fly. Pregnant women should not fly.

Is there a weight restriction?
Those less than 6 feet tall must weigh less than 230 pounds, and those over 6 feet must weigh less than 250 pounds.

Is it safe?
Our unique design with its wall-to-wall air column, along with our certified and highly-trained instructors, allows you to safely enjoy your flight session. Your flight instructor is with you through your entire flight experience regardless of your level of experience.

Is it scary?
Generally it is not considered scary; there is NO jumping or any sensation of falling. You simply float on a column of air. There is no sensation of falling or anything that would make you feel motion sickness.

Is it hard to breathe?
Not at all. It is the same as if you stick your head out a car window while driving. All you feel is the wind in your face. Just breathe normally, either through your mouth or your nose.

Can I fly with my friends or family members?
We generally fly with several people in each session. Your friends/family will be part of the same group however you will fly one at a time in the flight chamber one-on-one with your instructor. Once you have gained more flight experience then you will be able to fly with others of the same skill level in the tunnel. If someone chooses to come to watch, they are welcome to accompany you through your experience and can watch from the observation area.

What time should I get there?
First-time flyers should arrive 60 minutes before the time you booked to fly. That gives you the time to check in, complete your waiver, attend the training session and change into your flight gear. Return flyers should arrive about 1/2 hour before your scheduled flight time.

Why do I need to wear a flight suit?
The instructors are trained to grasp the handles of your flight suit should you need spotting.
Can I do trick and flips in the tunnel?
iFLY’s first concern is for your safety in the flight chamber so the tricks or flips are done by experienced flyers only. Some flyers are able to do turns, move up and down and front to back during their first flight.

Can I wear my glasses?
Yes. We have larger goggles that fit over eyeglasses.

Will I need to take off my watch and jewelry?
Yes. You should remove any items that might flap around or become loose, such as earrings, necklaces, bracelets, watches, rings, and hair accessories. In addition, you should remove everything from your pockets. We do have lockers for your use, but we recommend that you leave anything valuable at home as we cannot be responsible for lost or stolen property.

Do I have to do the training session?
All first-time flyers are required to take the training class. You’ll get a lot of important and helpful information as well as some pre-flight practice of your flying position. If you’ve flown with us once within the last three months, you don’t have to do the training session again and can book a flight as a Return Flyer.

How much is parking?
We offer all first-time flyers 2.5hrs of FREE valet parking at the Jurassic Parking Garage. We suggest that all our guests staying for no more than 2.5hrs take advantage of this amazing offer. Our experience takes about 1.5hrs to complete for up to15 flyers.
*Please note, after 2.5hrs the max. flat rate of $30 will be charged. For General Parking, the rate is $16 and the daytime Preferred Parking is $22. We recommend, that our guests park in Curious George, the closest garage to iFLY Hollywood.
